Retirement Box 13 not checked when it should be

Mar 02, 2011 2 Replies

Hello,

I have submitted my taxes online which resulted in a refund. I have now received notice from my employer that Box 13 was not checked for the Retirement Plan when it should have been. How critical is this, do I need to submit a corrected 1040?

Thank you, mfd38

The most obvious case I can think of is where you deposited to an IRA and this checked box would have helped the software determine if it were deductible or not. I read you said online. On my computer, I'd just go in, check the box and see if tax due/refund changed. Can you try that on line?

Tried what you suggested online and it did not change anything. A little more investigating on my part confirms what you state regarding IRA's - it would only be an issue had deductible contributions been made then it could affect some limits.

Thanks for your response :-)
