When I installed TaxCut for Business 2008 and tried to import last year's file TaxCut couldn't find it in its Browse window. I went looking using Windows XP's Search applet, looking for *.T07 files using options to find system and hidden files. Didn't find any (I KNOW 99+%I didn't delete them).
So I started a new 2008 file, named it TaxCutReturn. Put nonsense in the company name field, saved it then closed TaxCut. Reopened TaxCut and it found and loaded what must be TaxCutReturn.T08.
Looked in MyDocuments/TaxCut/. No files visible. Searched for TaxCutReturn.T08 and *.T08 again in Windows. No files found. Opened TaxCut again, file was found and loaded with the nonsense company name.
How did TaxCut find TaxCurtReturn,T08 when for all practical purposes to Windows the file doesn't exist? Well TaxCut likely stored the reference to the file as a fully qualified file name. which Windows on a call would be able to find. But somehow it is hidden from Windows Explorer.
TaxCut Tech Support Tier 1 was not helpful and refused to escalate.
Any ideas? Virus?
