Client (whose return is on extension) gives me their information a couple of days ago - multiple W-2s and a few other forms but not much to the return. Due to their income, they did not receive the full stimulus payments for round 1 or 2. I told them they could look on IRS website and get thet information. So, I peruse to the website today so I can tell them what they need to do to find this information:
PER IRS WEBSITE: "The first and second Economic Impact Payments no longer appear in Get My Payment. To find the amounts of these payments, view or create your online account."
OH GOOD GRIEF - why couldn't they let taxpayers easily access that information through at least October 15th?
Other clients have told me it is not a very pleasant experience to create an IRS online account.
Of course, taxpayer didn't keep the Notice 1444 or Notice 1444-B!
I'm not even sure that this was direct deposited - taxpayer has owed every year for many years - if they did get a check they probably cashed it ... so no record of a deposit!
Since I'm sure they will owe for 2020 yet again, I'm inclined to simply enter 0 for these payments and then let the IRS true it up! It is unlikely they have the money to pay the balance due anyway.
Maybe they will get lucky and IRS will believe that $0 was paid to them (like a previous poster stating they are getting additional $500 of these rebates).
Why does this not surprise me about the IRS?
Happy October 15th, 2021 in advance to everyone!
