Will I be penailized for late submission?

I opted for an extension to file my 2019 federal IRS tax return to Oct 15th, 2020.

I went to the USPS office personally on Oct 15th, 2020 morning. Got the envelope weighed by a USPS person behind the counter and paid the amount of the USPS printed label specially printed out for this envelope.

On the envelope, I  wrote the incorrect first number of the zip code to the IRS. Everything else was correct. The zip code had the full 5 digit zip code except the first number was wrong.   The USPS sent returned the envelope to me with a label: Return to Sender: Insufficient address.

So this time I sent the IRS return by USPS via overnight delivery, which reached the IRS  I enclosed a note to the IRS regarding this and also enclosed the original envelope that said:   Return to Sender: Insufficient address.  The  USPS stamp label on the envelope shows the date Oct 15, 2020 and also the dollar amount of the postage.

For some reason, the USPS took over a month to return the envelope to me.

Will I be penalized for the late submission of my IRS federal tax return?

If yes, what would the dollar amount be?

You might. But it's based on the amount owed. If you didn't owe anything in the first place, the deadline isn't really an issue.
