Lawyers didn't write the law. The government did. In the case of legal tender, the law was written quite a long time ago.

If someone is willing to accept them, then they are acceptable. If not you would have to put that question to whoever it is who is refusing them.

No they haven't. What they have said is they are not "legal tender". That is very different to not being "legal". That would imply that they are illegal to trade with.

Because if somebody gets sued in court for non-payment of a debt, there needs to be a clearly defined method by which settlement of that debt must be accepted. If not, the creditor could come up with various bizarre means of payments which the debtor was unable to comply with. That legally defined method of settlement of a debt in a court is what is known as Legal Tender.

That is all the term means. Nothing else. It has nothing to do with what a store might accept as payment when you go shopping. It would help if you tried to understand the difference.

There are two benefits to this strategy:

1. You will find out that You Are Wrong
2. You will probably get yourself banged up for a few months, and give us some peace.
3. It will cost you a lot of dosh.

So that court staff don't have to deal with people wanting to pay £1000 in 1p pieces just because they disagree with the judge.

I am under the impression that Scotland is one of the separate countries (along with Wales, which is a Principality, Northern Ireland and England) which together make up the United Kingdom. It is this Union which some Scots would like to leave.
