Abbey eSaver Direct

Anyone tried opening one of these? Using a bogstandard Windows XP machine with Internet explorer, which all works on every other site including several internet banking sites, I couldn't complete the application form. Fill in all the details on the first page, press 'next' and their site gave a technical error message with a list of possible faults. Several phone calls over three days, many attempts at removing all cookie protection, etc., and it was still the same. They then took my internet banking application by phone - how quaint. Now ten days later, I still need to send them a cheque which they insist on as a means of activating the account. I have to send it with my new eSaver Direct account number written on it. And to get the account number I need to logon - they haven't given the account number in the documentation posted to me, and can't reveal it by phone. And I can't logon because I need a eSaver card number to do this and they haven't sent the card. And even if that's sorted I can't credit more money to the account because setting up a direct debit to a linked account isn't part of the basic procedure. I have to phone and they'll send a form by post. A somewhat novel approach to internet banking - make it difficult for the customer to give you money, and, so far, do it all by post and telephone.
