BACS transfer.

Hello,

I was wondering how long it would take for a BACS transfer to go through? The payment bank is the same as my bank, (Bank of Scotland both sort codes begin with 80-xx-xx). Would it still take 3 working days or would it be instant?

Thanks.

Instant? With a bank? Come on. 3, maybe 4, days.

Within First Direct ( and all HSBC I think) it is instant.

If it's a BACS transfer it will be 3 working days, possibly 4. They may put it through their internal system, however, in which case it would be instant, or next day at worst.

Halifax (100% HBOS) to / from Sainsburys bank (50% HBOS) is instant, so should be instant.

Why not try it with a fiver and see?

That's what I reckon from experience. Between current and savings instant but nsending people payments takes a couple of days.

If it's a different bank, certainly. Transfer between A+L accounts will be next day, worst case. Transfer between Barclays accounts is generally instant.

As I've said, its from the Bank of Scotland both sort codes begin with

80-XX-XX. It's my wages payment for the month (due on the 24th Oct), just wondering if that would be instant or not!

Best thing to do is ask them.

Different banks: 3 or 4 days

Barclays-Barclays: same day.

If you use Barclays online, sometimes they'll text you when you set up a new payee/transfer and wait 3 days before making the transfer as a security measure.

I think some of the other posters are slightly confusing things, albeit unintentionally.

If really is a BACS transfer then it will take 3 days.

Some banks treat intra-bank transfers and/or inter-branch transfers differently and dont put them through BACS at all and use their own internal system instead, so they are processed the same day. But then they arent 'BACS' payments.

As a separate point some banks are able to accept a BACS instruction on Day 1 for credit to the recipients account on Day 3 and delay the debit to the remitter's account until day 3 as well, RBS for example.

If it is a salary payment using the usual salary payment system, it will be

3 days regardless of what bank it came from.
