Seen just now on the lunchtime news, at last theyve caught a large retailer dumping our card receipts unshredded. In this age of online transcations and realtime processing can anyone in banking or retailing tell us WHY the retailer has to keep a scrappy bit of paper in their till when we leave, bearing full or partial card information? It was not long ago our local Spar shop was printing card receipts bearing the whole 16-digit card number. This does not apply to all Spar shops I should add, only those unwilling to upgrade their tills and/or data comms. Why on earth are the likes of Tescos still hoarding these bits of paper? Are the night shift pouring through them writing down the amounts with a pencil for later processing?!
