BANKING: personal guarantee

In 2001 I took out a 12K business loan at Barclays. I currently owe 4K.

I signed a personal guarantee at the time, but I have lost it.

Although I have ordered a copy, I have a few questions which are probably quite general.

1) Will PG cover just the loan or every other dealing with Barclays? i.e OD / Company Credit Card.

2) Does PG normally expire?

3) Is Barclaycard consider Barclays for purpose of question 1?

I imagine the answers will be 1). Everything, 2). No, 3). Yes

But what do I know!

Everything

No, not on its own

It is part of the Barclays Group so, yes!

Looks that way!

I only speak from experience and IANAL

That depends on what the guarantee said.

Probably everything, but it could well have been specific to the loan.

Only when the activity that was being guaranteed is concluded satisfactorily.

I think they are a separate company (in which case no), but I'm not sure of that.

Not usually the case for clearing bank guarantees. Guarantees are held indefinitely and will remain in place and valid until the guarantor is specifically released.
