Best way to make a small funds transfer in Euros to a European bank acc?

Hi,

I've won an eBay item from a seller in Germany who doesn't take Paypal or similar. He wants me to make an electronic funds transfer straight into his (Euro) bank account.

Fair enough, however my UK GBP bank account doesn't seem to have the facility to enter IBAN details as a recipient, plus I suspect there's something like a 10GBP fee for such a transfer. The total I need to pay this seller is only circa 20 Euros, so I'm keen to find the least cost option and avoid 10 pound fees. Any suggestions?

Send cash. If you dont have any euros around there is bound to be a friend or colleague who has some they could sell at whatever the appropriate exchange rate is.

Cash in an envelope, anything else will cost a ridiculous amount compared with the 20 euros being paid.

Thanks folks, that's what I'm doing. Now to come up with an elaborate disguise scheme..

I walk over to American Express and buy travellers cheques in the currency involved (US$, Can$, CHF, EUR) and post them over, signed in 2 places and made out to the payee involved.

Yes, travellers cheques are actually quite a good option for small amounts with one proviso - they are an absolute pain in the backside if the payment is cancelled for any reason.

I sent a deposit (in Euros) to France a couple of years ago and the booking fell through for some reason. The travellers cheques were returned but it took me ages and a load of hassle to get their value credited back to my account.
