Well, for one thing, we put our dates in dd/mm/yyyy order over here.
If you're interested in getting British clients -- and if you're posting here, in a UK newsgroup, that's the assumption -- you should make European date format (either dd/mm/yyyy or perhaps yyyy/mm/dd) the default, and maybe have American format as a cookie-controlled alternative.
Otherwise, it's potentially interesting.
