Saving Accounts

Hopefully there's some people in here that know more about this than we do...

We're looking to open an account separate to our current account to save for things like trips abroad. Perhaps 100 per month by standing order out of our current account (maybe more later on when a few loans clear) plus the odd 20 0r 30 here and there if we have a surplus. So the input would have a regular component plus odds and sods. Access could be a problem. Last minute deals or flights would mean that instant access (or as near as dammit) is pretty important. It could be joint or individual. The account could be cleared out perhaps once a year or even twice a year if the trips are cheap enough. Barclays have the "Reward Saver" that ups the interest the fewer withdrawals you make in a year and we're customers of theirs anyway. We're researching around the net at the moment for something better but it's not really our subject. Is there anything better out there at the moment? Where would you look? Could we achieve what we want to do some other way? And what sort of rate could we expect?

Cheers for any tips.... open to all ideas and suggestions. Sorry for all the newbie questions. But after reading a little in here it seems the best place to ask.

Alliance & Leicester's Online Saver, internet access only, has 5.35% AER from 1 pound, 'instant access' (this means up to 24 hours) via the internet to transfer to/from another Alliance & Leicester current account, 3 working days to/from an external account.

Without a hint of irony, "Pharmanaut" astounded uk.finance on 12 Feb 2005 by announcing:

I'd suggest a Cash ISA if you're not already using your ISA limits. Alliance & Leicester still seems to be the leader @ 5.40%, although they do have a 25 transfer charge.
