Buildings insurace for freehold flat

I have to arrange buildings insurance for my home, which is a terrace divided into two flats. My flat is freehold, ie I own the whole building, but the other flat is leasehold. Ihave to get insurance for the whole building. This arrangement causes all online quote sytems and call centres to fall over, so I don't normally shop around!

However, this year the premium for renewal is very high, following an investigation for what I thought might be a problem - a crack in a wall. I reported the crack to the current insurers last year and they arranged an inspection. The loss adjuster said that the crack was nothing to do with subsidence and that I could choose whether to bother repairing it. Now however the insurers have added £150 to the premium and are demanding that I get the crack repaired by specialists. Given that the written report from the engineer begins with a statement that the damage is stable and is not an insured loss, my considered opinion is that they can go screw themselves. Unfortunately, they've left it right until the last minute to send me the renewal so I have little time to find an alternative.

Can anyone recommend an insurer who might cover this rather unusual arrangement?

Many thanks

I wonder why they did that?!
