I am wondering about starting an online search for a certain person who operated in Britain during 1981-1985 and disappeared with millions of pounds of savers' money. Anyone got any guidelines; is there a better forum for such purposes than this one?

Why be so guarded about mentioning who it is? But usenet is probably a really crap forum for searching for someone, especiially someone who doesnt want to be found ( I would assume from your description). There are plenty of people-search websites but they would assume that the person hasnt changed their name!
There are many Peter Jefferies on the web. My idea is to try to contact the other victims as well as searching. I believe I have identified the particular person........
