They don't hold that information - that's what they employ the services of a CRA for and you're perfectly entitled to ask the CRA for that information for a modest fee of 2.
Yes, I realised that it would eventually be possible to get hold of the information but it does seem that the route to get it is rather convoluted.

Not really. The CRA holds your information. The lender asks to look at it, so do you. The lender cannot give you this information since they don't actually hold it.
