If this speed keeps up, yeah, it could be about that.

It jangles a little though. What seemed to drag it all out in Japan was the authorities' insistence on keeping the banks from the consequences of their actions. The US and UK can hardly be said to have been laissez faire in that regard so far. There must be some other crucial wrinkle that I've missed.

I've had it pegged at 50% through 90% down for some time and that fits pretty closely with your number.

I just pad the mattress out with marijuana. It'll be a more effective trade than gold in the aftermath ;-)

Brian Stableford. Star-Pilot Grainger series. It's not as famous as Blade Runner I guess, but it should be. Fernando says enjoy...

Buy Italian cheese and bury it in your back garden.

My Italian step-BiL does that with a bunch of his cronies; they use a special airtight cellar for the job, entered by a manhole. They have to make very sure that it's well ventilated before entering it when it's first unsealed because of the CO2 that's generated. He usually gives us a chunk of this prized delicacy, but while it's pleasant enough I couldn't rave over it.

I always feel that it is a fools game to try to time the markets as predictions are invariably wrong because things change but that is my best guess.

You mean like NR Directors :-)

If you have only missed one wrinkle you are doing far better than most.

That makes two of us who could ultimately be right or wrong but only time will tell.

You may have a point, it is certainly lighter, I know nothing about it but would think that it probably wouldn't keep as well.

No, that cheese was thrown in the canal, left in the parish mortuary, and finally buried on a beach, bringing the town a reputation for its strong air, so that "weak-chested and consumptive people used to throng there for years afterwards".

I never was any good at speeling.

Thing is, it's a manageable size. You'd need an unfeasibly large pit to bury, say, capitalism.

I'm sure, if we ganged together, we could bury Piers Morgan.

In a fridge.

With Jeffrey Archer.

And some rats.

Just noticed this split thread, not sure if the comment's aimed at me, the starter of this thread? I started preparing for winter when I heard the very first rumbles on the US housing situation early (Q1?) last year. The results of my efforts went better than expected and this thread's been prompted by an unexpected availability of cash I want to squirrel away somewhere safe for the 'winter'.

Obviously we'd put in a web cam, and some sort of light source, so we could dig it up and release the rats (1) after they done the necessary. And maybe some ketchup.

Certainly not precious metals. That's the next bubble that will burst at some point in the future. I don't know when, and I don't know how much further they will rise before they crash, but they are too expensive at the moment.
