do failed DD's affect future credit rating?

I have recently switched bank accounts. The old account is still active but has only a couple of quid in it to keep it alive (in case I decide I want to go back to it).

My problem is that a particular company with whom I have a DD arrangement keep trying to apply the DD to the old account, even though they have the new account details. The payment bounces through lack of funds and they send me a letter. Every month I speak to them on the phone and they are very apologetic and say the new details are on their computer so they can't understand why this happened and promise it won't happen again - but it has been ongoing for 3 months so far. This company offers to pay any charges incurred.

But the thing that worries me: is there a record kept somewhere of these failed DD's that will affect my future credit rating?

I have written to the bank cancelling all dd's on the old acct but not before a couple of these failed transactions occurred.

thanks, LH

If the DD originator is not a credit provider then it wont hurt your Credit rating.

It occurs to me that the erroneous DD is being originated under a different reference than the DD that appears to have the right details on. Get the bank to tell you the full reference on the DD claim from their BACS printout (or whatever they have these days), this bit usually doesnt make its way onto the statement, then contact the originator and check it.

Thanks John - that's the bit I was worried about. In fact the company have also been debiting the money from the new account so as far as they are concerned I am not in arrears - indeed if it wasn't for the fact the old acct is empty they would have been taking the money twice! I was worried the banks might have some central counter for transactions that bounce through lack of funds.

I think I'm making headway now with the company originating the DD's - this time the call centre person went and found someone in the right department who discovered a problem - the way they described it sounded very much like what you said above. However now that I have got beyond the call centre (who were all very nice, by the way, they just could never fix it) I have more confidence it will get sorted.

many thanks for your reply.
