Duplicate tenants insurance

I've just discovered that i have a duplicate insurance policy on a property i was renting for about 2 years. I don't know exactly how it came about but i believe the duplicate policy began when i attempted to make a small change to my existing policy (i wanted a bike to be covered as well).

I can't believe i didn't notice ages ago that two payents were coming out of my bank account, but it was a relatively small payment comming out of a well used account and i just missed it.

Each time a renewal notice came through the door it said words to the effect of "no action necessary" and was automatically renewed. It never occured to me that the policy numbers on each letter might be different.

I recently cancelled the policy (which i thought was the only one) and found that payments were still being taken out of the account. It took several phone calls to the insurance company to find out that i actually had two policies with them for the same property. The insurance company is now "investigating" and will get back to me.

My question is where do i stand on this? The bottom line is: Can i get my money back?

One of my client's had a similar problem a few years ago - but involving 2 different insurance companies. I managed to obtain refunds, but it was a bit of a hassle.

So, I suggest you telephone and see what your insurance company has to say.
