Endowment Misselling- IFA went bust pre 1 April 1996

Its a well worn subject, but not for me. I have been a little slow in making a complaint. In summary:

5th Oct 88 Took out an endowment policy with Scottish Amicable to cover the mortgate of a house I expected to own for no more than 2 years. 1st Sep 06 I decided to pursue the misselling option.

It transpires that the IFA that sold it to me ceased FIMBRA cover on

7th March 1990. I think it ceased trading. The Prudential tell me that they have no responsibility because the IFA was an independent organisation.

The FOS tells me that because the IFA was not authorised by FIMBRA after 1st April 1996, they have no responsibility.

I have heard that in this sort of case, the policy provider (now The Pru) can take responsibility for the misselling voluntarily. The Pru shows no sign of this. Is there a form of words that one can use that rings the right bells?

Thanks for all help, Paul
