Credit Card Misselling

In a moment of weakness today I was cornered by a Credit Card canvasser at a supermarket.

I asked, "Can I have written details, a leaflet, that I can take away to check out the deal"

Answer, "No, but I can tell you all about the card, what would you like to know"

I was so surprised that I didn't even give them a proper tongue lashing about it.

I'm guessing that not having written details of a credit agreement available counts as misselling, any opinions?

I'll be back again soon, so which regs to quote, Consumer Credit Act, FSA quidelines, who to threaten with Trading Standards when I ask them to stop misselling?

Or am I talking complete . . . .

it's a murky world. The person you spoke to probably doesn't work for cap one, and probably doesn't give a hoot about their business. All they care about is the 15 quid they get for signing you up. Next time try "I've got an excellent credit record, give me 5 and I'll sign up now". It might work. Certainly you'd get a couple of quid out of them ;-)

I went for a job with these sorts of pricks once, they sail very close to the wind wrt the law....all the sellers are usually self employed (and encouraged not to pay tax!)

Don't worry, I have am under no illusions regarding their methods, I'm just looking for ammunition to make their lives a little harder :-).

Btw: On this one I asked at the supermarket customer services for written details of the (store branded) card and was given them without question;

28.8% APR, no wonder the drones weren't putting anything in writing.

I was approached by one at a Shell petrol station - they came over with a clip board as I was putting diesel into the van. Was asked a few questions - do you have any cards? Do you pay interest? Did you know our card saves you money on Shell petrol?

Then "Can I have your name and address?" i.e. they wanted to get the form filled in without asking me if I was interested. I told them I didn't want their card. "Don't you want to save money on petrol at any Shell station anywhere in the world?" "No, the company pays for the petrol so I don't care what it costs" silence.

At stansted airport "Do you want a free flight."

"Maybe"

"OK fill in this Ryanair card application."

Used it once (for 11 pounds IIRC) and a voucher for a free flight arrives (eventually). It's flipping useless (I never expected it to be worth much, wot with RA adding on so many extras that you still have to pay, but the extra T&C's made it complete unusable).

So the card's in my wallet never to be used again as the only 'loyalty' points that it gives me is useless flight vouchers.

What's the point (for them?)

Abserluterly, shows what they think of the punters (with that interest rate), although it says somewhere that that is the max and the actual will depend on your own circumstances . . .
