Endowments

I am just filling an endowment questionaire in respect of a complaint I have made for misseling of the policy. The insurers are asking for me to sign an authorisation form for them to "request information from all relevant parties"

  1. should I sign this
  2. Are they allowed to do this
  3. Do they need this to investigate my claim seeing as the policy & details are held by them

Any advice would be gratefully apreciated.

Thanks in advance

They'll also need to contact your mortgage lender for details on the mortgage if they decide you need compensation (in order to calculate it correctly). They may also need to contact the IFA who sold it to you.

What makes you think it would be an IFA?. Many, if not most, endowments were sold by non IFAs.

relevant

I wouldn't - but see below

Yes - they can ask, and from their POV it is not unreasonable. They may need to get information from the mortgage lender if they are considering an offer, for example.

However, the authority being sought is too wide, and I would respond to that effect, as long as you are willing to suffer some delay later in the process. You should make it clear that you will obtain any information that they need directly where appropriate, and will give authority on a similar basis.

correctly).

If the policy was sold by an intermediary, the insurance company would not be doing anything.

Only if the intermediary was 'independent' - the intermediary could have been 'tied'.

There was an implied "if sold by an IFA" there. I was just trying to list possible people they might need permission to contact to discuss your confidential data.
