Equity investment

Hi, This looks like the place for an appropriate answer, but apologies if it's been covered before (never been here before).....I will be completing my house sale on Thursday this week, and will not be buying another for 2 months (although importantly it may be more/less time dependant on a short chain). The probably obvious question is what to do with approximately

50,000 for this short term? Whilst all advice greatly received, the horses are off limits, as is casino or any other get rich quick schemes....tempting as 25-1 at Aintree may be. Never had this sort of money before, and unless I do something I would imagine my conveyancer would hang on to it herself and reap some benefit? Thanks for any ideas Mark

Assuming all of the £50K is going out again I would stick it into a non-risk investment.

Banks qualify as such, and ignoring the risk of the banks going default [*] I would consult the 'best buy' tables, for example at Money Supermarket .

Another thing to consider is the premium bonds, but there is some disadvantage in how many draws your investment would participate in and therefore a chance that your return would be lower than a normal savings account for such a short time. See .

You have to wait a full calendar month *after* the month you bought them, so if you buy them now they won't get entered for draws till July. And there's a 30k investment limit. And when you cash them in you have to wait up to 3 weeks for your money.

Not for a 2 month or less investment.

Deposit account with a decent interest rate.

There is not too much point in busting a gut to extract the large % point, as an extra 1% p.a. (gross) only equates to 50.00 (net) for a 40% taxpayer for 2 months.

But it in a bank/building society deposit account.

2 months is nowhere near long enough to consider equity investments.
