Euribor - historical chart and trends

Nov 12, 2007 3 Replies

Hello,

I am about to take a mortgage loan with EURIBOR. I am trying to choose between a 5-year fixed interest rate and a 3/6/12-month EURIBOR. All are about the same now, the 5-year fixed one a bit smaller.

Which would you choose? What is the most likely trend for EURIBOR during the next 5 years according to the majority of experts?

Also, are there any long-term historical EURIBOR charts available online? I know

and

which are quite OK, but I'd like to see a chart as of 1995 or so.

Thank you!

Umm... EURIBOR is the interest rate set for the Euro, right? The Euro has only existed since 1st January 1999. The euribor.org page you linked to has data right back to 2 days before the Euro was introduced, 30th December

1998.

Presumably before this something could be calculated from the rates of each of the Eurozone central banks, but it might have too many variables to be useful.

Or am I missing something obvious here?

Theo

Thanks, Theo. All I can say to myself about the dates is DOH! :)

Anyway, the question about the most likely trends of EURIBOR remains...

I guess you would use the DM rate before that, as all the currencies were tied to the DM before the Euro came into existence.
