Facilities to Accept Credit Cards?

Can anybody recommend facilities to accept credit cards. I know there are online credit card acceptance companies for online purchases, but can anybody recommend a company that allows you to accept credit card sales that "are not" online, eg. over the phone, or in person when making a sale. I do not have much trading history, and would find it difficult to meet the ordinary bank criteria?

you're sking the wrong bank then, wrong as in wrong branch as well as wrong bank, keep trying, it varies enormously from branch to branch and bank to bank, but for god's sake read ALL the t+c before you sign.

Thanks for your input. I have tried banks, but the banks don't decide, for example if you go to Lloyds, they will use...something called "cardnet"...and etc.etc.

I already have a business bank account, but have no track record yet. So I won't meet the stringent criteria. I am in the same category at the moment as a business wannabee, like a market stall holder, without any bonafida history! :( They don't like people like me...they only like wealthy homeowners who have strong credit records. I've not been bankrupt or anything like that. I'm just comming off the dole and starting a biz. So I'm way down on the list of "credit worthiness"

Thanks Collin, I find that many of the "online credit card companies" accept cc's over the internet, but they won't let you accept credit cards for example if I am at a clients place, taking payment for having made a website. I'm starting up a small website design company. I have no idea how its going to go but I do need to be able to accept credit cards. It seems everybody wishes to pay with credit cards. Also you see, I am hoping to be able to take work from people who are not just in my area, so therefore I will accept payment via telephone.. Due to my "unemployed" status, it was incredibly difficult just to even get a business bank account.

From the above, it sounds like you are "self-employed" and certainly not "unemployed" ... care to elaborate?

.

I am going from unemployment to starting my own business via a government program that enables people to try to start a business whilst still getting a basic amount of money per week, for a certain amount of time.

Interesting! How long do you need to be "unemployed" for, before you qualify for the scheme?

IIRC, the latest version of QuickBooks has some sort of merchant facility?

The advantage for the Government is that they spend tax payers money on reducing the unemployment figures by taking Golden Gun off the unemployed statistics. The fact that it's all a waste of time and money is irrelevant to the Government.
