Finding a good mortgage

Jan 04, 2007 4 Replies

Hi All,

My tracker mortgage is soon to reach the end of its discount period. I've never been happy with advice given by advisors so I am considering choosing a new deal myself. I have looked at several web sites recommended on this forum, but it is still unclear to me how to pick the best deal since I always move to a new mortgage as soon as the discount period is over.

TIA, Mark

TIA? You can't even be bothered to ask the question!

With your level of apathy I would recommend using a pin.

Incorrect. I just clicked the send button too soon.

The question was: "How can I compare mortgages with different discount periods?" I have no intention of keeping any mortgage on a SVR.

It's nothing to do with apathy, just lack of perfection.

Set up a spreadsheet showing the monthly payments and compare total costs at the end of various periods is the way I would do it.

Given there's no perfect way this may be the best. Obviously, the shorter discount periods would give you more flexibility even if the costs were higher at a certain period after the discount period ends.
