I sold for 105k 10 years after paying 85k, so not a particulalry tidy sum, and the place I moved to had gone up by 130k since the trough. So I 'gained' 45k versus the trough and 'lost' 130k.
The point being that downward price moves are fine, as long as they don't trap you somewhere you don't want to be, for years and years on end.
