Problems with Debit Card transactions?

Apr 13, 2007 2 Replies

Has anyone else been having problems using a Debit or Credit card this morning?

I've tried to topup my phone using my Halifax debit Card, but it wouldn't authorise.

I know I got money in the account..

When I phoned the Halifax up, they said there was a nationwide problem with the debit/credit cards.

Is this true or is it just Halifax?

I haven't personally, but I saw this on BBC news website, looks like it is not just you (or Halifax)

Here is the text of an email I sent to the Banking Code Standards Bureau on Wed 11/04/2007. ( snipped-for-privacy@bcsb.org.uk)

"Hi,

I had a quick read of the banking code, and couldn't find any commitment to availability of the internet service of banks. Please can you update the Banking Code to apply suitable standards. E.g. 99.9% 24 hour availability, with 3 days notification of down time.

Many thanks, nnn"

In other words directors of financial institutions may still get their multi million pound bonuses whatever level of service is provided. Their bonuses are probably larger if the lowest cost is used for providing service and backup, maximising profit, and quality levels can be ignored.
