Kaupthing Edge - stick or twist?

Oct 08, 2008 2 Replies

Hi.

My understanding is that for UK savers Kaupthing Edge count as a UK bank with full FSCS protection for deposits up to 50,000.

Does this also mean that if it became necessary, the UK government would be likely to help them out to stay solvent/trading in ways that obviously aren't going to do for the likes of Icesave?

Cheers.

Yes

Probably not. And under the terms of the Icelandic compensation scheme, Kaupthing, as the only surviving bank, is required to pay out for all the other bankrupt Icelandic banks. I don't think they can afford that.

Their website states quite clearly that KSF is a UK bank.
