Standard Life - Stick or Twist?

Assuming that the company does become a PLC, is it worth keeping hold of the shares or selling straight away?

Is it going to rain on August 13 2007?

If it is then keep them, if it isn't sell.

I suspect that if it does happen then it will become a bid target. I believe there were failed talks recently between The Pru and Aviva (CU, NU, GA)

If another company takes over SL, that is no guarantee that it will do better. It may do worse.

But it might force the share price up. (Still no pack here by the way)

Nor here, either. However, I finally rang the nice Standard Life answerphone message service ("We are sorry for the delay..."), and eventually spoke to a Scottish voice (do they employ any other?), who told me, with somewhat exasperated inflection, that the 'meeja' were expecting everything to be sent out 'to 4 million customers' overnight, when this was just not 'physically possible'. The upshot was that I could expect my pack by the end of April.

You ought to expect to speak to someone with a Scottish voice when you phone a Scottish company...

.....Why, are they racist in Scotland?

Eh? When you go to France, do you expect most voices to be speaking French? Is that racist?

I'd expect them to be speaking in a variety of French accents from all over France. In Scotland, I'd expect people to be talking in a variety of 'english' accents (since I think very few people speak Scottish), and not just Scottish accents, since otherwise they would undoubtably be discriminating, as many people in the Scottish workforce derive from all over the UK, indeed worldwide.

Why? When you phone up most companies you get unintelligible Indian as opposed to unintelligible Scottish.
