Lenth of ex-dividend period?

Does anyone know how long (or if there is a legal minimum requirement) an ex-dividend date is before the pay date. I've been looking at Glaxo and the average number of days between the ex-dividend date and the payment date is 59 days (using late 8 dividend dates). When GSK pay quarterly dividends, that's quite tight!

There are rules, but I can't remember them. I have seen them online. Have a search using the london stock exchange website or using the keywords "listing rules" or the "yellow book"

NGT have XD on 02 Jun 04, and pay on 23 Aug 04, which is 84 days, I think.

Quite a lot are over 2 months. RSA have XD on 18 Aug 04 and pay on 30 Nov

04, which is 3 months and 13 days, 104 days altogether.
