Maternity cover

My girlfriend on paper should have an immaculate credit rating, been in debt to credit cards in her youth but never missed a payment has a mortgage again not in arrears and has held the same bank account for over 20 years but owes c. 2,000 to an online bank who randomly seem to increase the intrest rate, the payments on this are only c. 50 a month so hardly seemed worth doing anything about, but after yet another rate rise she'd had enough so applied for a loan to our mortgage company who refused her!!!

Quite happy to loan us over 100 times the amount on a property with plenty of equity in it but not to loan her 2K. when she enquired as to why she'd been rejected the only thing the advisor could guess at was that she'd told the redundancy cover sales gestapo that she was going on Maternity leave in

6 months, which surprised her as it wasn't a question on the loan application, and as she pointed out was discriminatory. the advisor back tracked and said that it was down to whoever reviewed the application on the day. Hmmm that's a policy is it? Bob's been dumped by his pregnant girlfriend so today decides not to give pregnent women loans??

I could understand if she was a student, foreign or young but she has a substantial credit history and more than enough assets to cover the amount. Anyone else come across anything as bizarre as this?

TIA

Just the way that their computer adds up the points I would imagine. Human opinion rarely come into it.

Why not get a 0% CC or two.

Huh, "hardly seemed worth doing anything about"? It's costing £600/year to service a £2000 loand and it's hardly worth doing anything about!

And at what point would something become not worth doing anything about in your opinion, reducing a payment of 12.50 a week to 11.75 a week or there abouts hardly seems worth doing anything about.

Really just after constructive responses not sneers thanks.

I do apologise Robin I normally have someone sense check my posts as I have a slight disorder with words unfortunately it was late and I was alone. I'm sorry this has distressed you so much that you felt the need to be critical I will try harder in future.

He said that the £50 per month were 'the payments' not the interest.

Hmm difficult one. A lender doesnt have to give any reason at all as to why they decline a loan, it could be because your teeth are rotten.

Is your girlfriend due to go on maternity leave?
