Mortgage & personal loan refusals soar

The number of people having their mortgage applications turned down has jumped by some 60% in the past six months.

Also, figures from MoneyExpert.com show that nearly 1.91 million adults applying for a loan in the past six months have been rejected, a rise of 37% on the 1.39 million that were rejected in the six months previously.

- Personal loans certainly make up the biggest portion of debt in the UK. There are an estimated 12 million adults with £66 billion worth of personal loans outstanding in the UK - that's twice the amount of debt on credit cards, and 6 times that on overdrafts.
