Nationwide turns my cash into a cheque to pay myself

Today i paid in some cash at abbey national and halifax into my credit card accounts.

When i went to do the same at Nationwide they said they were transferring my cash into a *cheque* and then would be paying it into my credit card account. And.....it would take up to three days to clear.

I asked why they had to do it and they said it was because they were not a bank like abbey and halifax. why would they be creating this extra administrative work for themselves?

Maybe they hope some customers would be within a day or so of their credit card repayment due date. They could then claim they paid late and charge a fee and interest because the cheque took 3 days to clear.

And your more credible explanation is??

When looking for reasons behind banks doing apparently odd things, my instinctive reaction is to consider ways that their actions might benefit the bank at the expense of the customer. The answer will frequently lie somewhere there.

The staff complain about having to do this and urge customers to complain and record your complaint for you. Tom
