There's a few of these about where I live.... one that takes in and does IRONING for example, whose turnover must only be a few hundred a week, and they've ALL got brand new vans. Is there some financial / tax break for this kind of enterprise such that they can get these new vans?

Yep. Money laundering.

maybe they need them to do the work ?
You can get the VAT back off a van but not a car. May be easier to claim a van is 100% for business to get the full capital allowance. If you are an employee and get a company car there is less benefit in kind tax than a company car.

Its all done on finance. HP, Leasing or Contract Hire. Vans financed this way can be VERY cheap indeed.
Interesting, surely you don't get owt for owt though ?
What sort of prices are we talking ?

Quite right!!
There's the rub! For leasing and contract hire, no APR is given, so the poor punter just looks at a weekly rental cost. In the whole scheme of things, this is all they need, mind you. But the rates are higher for very new businesses.
So could you give me an idea of rent/lease for a little van for instance?

OK thanks, I assumed you meant very cheap over the contract lifetime.

Not really. Im not in that business but I know from dealing with some suppliers that when a supplier needs to 'ditch stock' they often get rid of it by helping leasing companies to fund the deals so a cheap citroen cocts £50 a week. Not much help, sorry.
