P60 help please

First sorry if this is the wrong group. Can anyone tell me how i can get copies of my mothers and fathers p60's. I need them for my parents who have both misplaced theirs. I've tried the inland revenue site but it didn't really help at all and there was about 50 different numbers to ring with none of them seeming the right one for me to ring.

I need them as i'm trying to get away with paying my university fees. When it was assesed my dad was working so i had to pay full wack (1150) but he has been unemployed now for about a year(all the time i've been at university) so i've asked to be reassed. They've asked for p60's from both my parents and evidence that my dads seeks benefits-although hes probably entitled to benefits he doesn't claim them and now considers himself retired. So primarilly i'm looking for advice on how to get the P60's and any other help i may be able to get. Incase it matters our household income is now around 12,000 from around 40,000 and my fathers company has basically gone bust and stole all his pension

If he is unemployed, he won't have a P60. He may have a P45 if he was employed for part of the year.

P60s are issued by employers. You should write to your mother's and father's place of work for the years in question, and you'd be prudent to have the letters signed in your parents' names, otherwise the employers may tell you to mind your own business.

It says on a P60 "a replacemnet P60 cannot be issued".

The chances of getting another one are close to nil.

But TBH I don't think that is is what is required. The authority need to see evidence of the parents low income and if the income is nil because they do not work then there is no useful P60 to prove this.

If the requirement is for the OP to show that his parents are unemployed then that is what he has to do. His dad probably has to go down to the unemployment office and get the documentation from there.

Seems a bit odd. Anyone know why, or is this just a particular rule for a particular employer?

The OP said that the father had been in employment, and he was presumably seeking a P6 for that period. I understood this to be a retrospective matter, and not a current situation query.

Not sure why - but they all say it.

But you could do a subject access request for a copy of their P11 card, or indeed the P14 and get the same details.

The P14 is the Inland Revenue's copy of the P60 and shows exactly the same information in the same places.

Thanks for the help group. I also emailed a friend of a friend and i thought her response might be useful for others who may be looking for answers in the future "You cannot get copies of p60's what you need to do is get a letter stating pay and tax details for the tax year in question. Your mum might get hers from work but you need to ring Dewsbury tax office for your dad but most of them are put through to call centre's these days the number is (0845) 3021467.

The tax office will be able to give you a letter stating the pay and tax details you require."

Err, not quite. Over the past decade I must have seen in excess of a thousand different P60's, for many varied different employers etc.

Although I do remember seeing "you cannot get a replacement" -type wording before, I didn't think that it always appeared - so I just checked with some P60's that were to hand :-

These were Police P60's - and on those prior to 1999, the wording "... you will not be able to get a duplicate ..." *does* appear. However, by 2004 this wording had been *removed* - and is nowhere to be seen! This was just for that particular employer (Police) - although I feel sure that I've seen older P60's which also didn't have the wording ...

My own 2003-04 P60 was created by my employer (me) using the IR's PAYE-online facility; this returns it as a PDF which can obviously be printed any number of times. Its small print contains "Please keep this certificate in a safe place as you will not be able to get a duplicate." Hmm...
