AS I understand it, the money you have invested in your pension fund will have to remain there until you are at least 50, whereby you will be able to withdraw a lump sum to the value of 25% of the fund and then receive a reduced taxable pension. If you are under 50, then as far as I understand it, there is no way to get to your pension or any money you have put into the fund.

Hope this helps,

Is it possible to get the TFLS at say 50 and then leave the rest of the fund to grow say another 10 years, and buy the annuity then?

There are companies that claim to be able to release your pension, but I believe they only operate where the client is aged >P as they just transfer any non state pension with higher age limits to a personal pension. Watch the fees. The FSA has issued a warning -

Investigate "Pension draw-down". You have to take a minimum level of income out of the fund.

Unless you are over the age of 50, you can't get the money back.

Actually that depends on your occupation .. if you were a deep sea diver, or professional boxer, you could access it (via a pension) rather sooner. Best thing is to talk to the insurance company .. if the disability is life threatening, or life-expectancy-impairing they may have some options.

Otherwise, as you said, 'no'.

Its going to 55, not 60. Although there it will not apply to those over a certain age (45 i think but its late and i'm too tired to check).
