Premium Bonds December

Sign of the times! Premium Bonds higher value prizes this month come to a total of £2,315,000 (24 prizes). In June 2007 they came to £21,250,000 (1211 prizes). Even without the 50th birthday extra 3 one-millions awarded that month, that's quite an argument for buying a good mattress.

My friend George recently bought another 10 grand's worth, giving him the maximum 30G. He is 80 years old, and when (if) I reach his age I will be spending it, not gambling on a million on long odds!

At least he gets his capital back if hes not happy with the result...unlike the lottery.

the odd thing is that the latest leaflet (received today) giving the new prize rates (valid from 1 dec.) shows 2.85 per cent and a 24000 to 1 chance. The NSandI website says 1.8 per cent and 36000 to 1 chance.

I am betting the leaflet is wrong, but how on earth could they be that wrong?

I have written to them about it and look forward to an explanation.

I see the return is now based on 1.8% - the lowest since they started in 1957.

Which government are you talking about? Just think about it.

I think the rates have changed twice:

24000:1 for 1st Dec 36000:1 for 1st Jan

I think it was something like 22000:1 for 1st Nov and earlier.
