Prepaid credit cards

Can anyone recommend a prepaid credit card ?

Having had my Barclaycard fraudulently used recently, I thought it would be a good idea for all online purchases.

The new Post Office Travel Money Card looked good until I noticed the 1.5% commission charge if used with Sterling

Prepaid credit cards are just as susceptible to fraud as normal ones, but you have less protection.

Have more than one creditcard, then if one gets used fraudulenty use the other one while you`re sorting it out. But remember that anything other than a normal credit card gives you MUCh fewer rights if someone does start messing you aboutre a con basically :-)

If online security is your main concern, you might want to consider the Cahoot Webcard.

The broadsheets covered them in the summer, mostly in relation to foreign travel. For example, The Times had a reasonable article in July:

Which? Magazine doesn't appear to have covered them in detail, but in answer to a Q&A in July 2006: "A new addition to the market is prepay cards. You use these in the same way as credit or debit cards, but you preload them with currency. But they can be expensive, so are best avoided. You often have to pay for the card, pay to load the card with currency and pay to withdraw cash."

Seems just the same. Pay to get it, pay a monthly fee. Avoid 'em if possible.

I can't really see the point, except for a few people who can't get anything more normal, but in their case it would be better to get a basic bank account, conduct it well and wait about six months.
