Recommended ISA

I haven't yet taken out an ISA for the current year and see that I'm entitled to £5,100 in the cash option.

I appreciate the market changes rapidly but I'd welcome recommendations please. I suppose it will depend heavily on a judgment about long or short term. I have a couple of fixed rate bonds maturing in 2013 and I'm in my 60s, so I'm tending towards shorter, but ready to be convinced otherwise.

Yes you are right about it. The recent market changes certainly makes one to think such things. lets see how others respond to it.

I'm just turned 76, and I am restricting myself to 1 year FR ISAs If I was in my 60s I'd go for 3 or 4 years, I think.

I started one in April, and plan to start another soon, so that they mature a few months apart, and can be renewed in turn, kind of leap-frogging. :) You could do something similar on a longer term basis, taking out a new one each year. Mine was started by a transfer from an instant access ISA, when the instant rates started to crash, so I was not restricted to £5100.

Thanks Gordon. I'm rather hoping that Christmas sees some new ones being announced with competitive rates.
