Resolution of my Abbey interest complaint

Mar 03, 2007 2 Replies

It was worth writing a complaint about my missing interest. They have quite speedily replied, although they deny any wrongdoing, they claim I was mistaken about 8 percent interest (I am certain it was not as low as the 6 percent they paid) and that I was not penalised for only making

12 payments (the reason given by savings account staff) they have sent me 50 quid and apologised for branch staff incompetence.

It doesn't sound as though it has been "resolved" as sich, since doubts appear to remain. It looks as though the £50 don't represent the interest shortfall, but are just an ex-gratia "shut-up-and-go-away" payment.

It was !

However, since it is about equal to the amount I felt I was down by, I am happy enough, and I don't think that taking it further would help me or anyone else. If I ever take out a similar thing I will photograph the poster and get someone else to analyse the small print.

I must say I am tempted to move bank to the Halifax just to get the hundred quid sweetener, as the Abbey interest thing has left a bad taste, even with the 50 quid.
