Find someone who wants them and do it without a broker. Otherwise, it all depends on what value of shares you have.

As Tiddy has said... get a friend or colleague to buy them from you then claim on the share transfer form that it is a gift and there you are...no costs whatsoever!

Even if it's a gift it's a disposal and it will need to be taken into consideration regarding CGT.

Indeed, but in practice I think there's a pretty good chance that CGT won't apply, for at least one of two obvious reasons.

Even if he has made a capital loss he might want to tell the revenue so he can carry it forward to use against gains next year (optimistically).
