Sending money to Far East for goods

I want to purchase some goods from a Far Eastern company who wants payment in US Dollars.

The company doesn't accept credit card payments, or payments via PayPal.

My bank charges a set fee plus a poor exchange rate to transfer funds electronically

If I try to pay direct from my online bank to Far Eastern companies bank, I still get clobbered by the previous sentence!

So... can anyone suggest any other options where I'm not going to be taken advantage of?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Steve

Buy a dollar cheque from your bank, or from American Express.

If the amount due is close to a round number send Amex travelers cheques. It's far cheaper than a bank draft. (In principle you can use Amex gift cheques and I think they take the risk; otherwise you take a certain risk, since you will have signed the cheques twice, putting their name in the payee block. Cross the cheque too -- although that won't mean anything in the USA or Canada, it does make the cheque more difficult for a fraudster to cash in some countries.

Whatever yous send, get a tracking number with recorded delivery or Airsure. If the amount in question makes it worthwhile. Odd that they don't take credit cards, though. Be aware of your risks.

Steve, I would recommend XETrade/Custom House Vantage (same service).

You will get a better exchange rate, a Draft will cost you nothing or a Wire will have lower fees than your bank. I'd be suprised if you find a cheaper service. When you make the payment to XE/CH pay via a regualr BACS transfer to avoid any extra fees from your bank.
