Suing Builders

How much does it cost to sue an incompetent builder?

Thomas Barnes Ltd messed up our conservatory and are just wasting time instead of rectifyig the mess.

Their survey director Alan Cunningham is a total turd.

Small claims (under 5k) is the most cost effective and apparently quite straightforward.

Over 5k and you'll be looking at, perhaps, paying for wigs and gowns at county court.

Never pay in advance.

You'd be better asking in a legal NG.

Can't you just turn up in an ordinary suit?

You might be able to but what about the advocates and judges :-)))

Good point - can you name any builders that would accept that?

Staged payments and retention of final payments etc. are standard practice.

Simple..

1/ Pay for all the materials yourself and have them delivered to your premises. 2/ Pay the builder and his mate on a per day basis.

This puts you in control.. If the builder fails to turn up regularly, appears to be doing a bad job or is taking to long, you can sack him and hire someone else.
