tax return P85

Hello,

this year (2004) I've had a placement in Scotland from February till June. I've paid tax those months for my income. I can get a tax return, so I requested the P85(S) form, 'cause I'm a foreigner and I'm back in my own country. When I filled in the form they requested, "Do you intend to live outside the UK for a full taxyear (Starting on the

6 April) after your departure"

I'm going to England February 2005 for another 5 months placement. Do I have to wait to request my tax return till the 6th of April?

Greets,

Almost certainly. But even if they were available before 6th April, why would you want it early, and what could you do with it anyway?

I think so too, except that February-March are part of the 2003-2004 tax year, so he should get tax back in respect of that now already. He will have to wait until April 2005 to claim tax back for April-June

2004 and February-March 2005.

Spend it. The point is that because he will only have 2 earning months during the tax year 03-04, and 5 during 04-05, and probably has an inappropriate tax code, he will probably have had more tax deducted than he actually needs to pay.

Good point.

If he's back in the UK and earning for the last two months, I was assuming that it won't be clear until 5th April exactly how much has been earned, and hence how much tax is due.

And what about February and March 2004? I never got any seperate form for those two months. Could they be added to my P45? On my P45 form, it only says when I left the company, I didn't say when I started....

That's because the P45 relates to the 2004-2005 tax year, so only deals with April to June of your Scottish placement. February and March (and the first 5 days of April) are part of the tax year

2003-2004, and if you overpaid tax in those two months, you should be able to get it back immediately.
