Inland Revenue on-line Self Assessment Tax Return still not working for some.

After receiving my P11D information I thought it would be a good idea to complete my tax return. I'd already entered most of the info in April, but guess what? Their web site on which millions of pounds has been spent is not working. I phoned up at the weekend and two days later it's still down for me + others.

I'm glad I tried it now since there is still time to request a paper form, but if I'd left it until 31st Jan. 2005 they would be extorting another £100.

I expect the 'IT guys' are churning - like lawyers do.

I did mine a few days ago and it worked fine, mind you it was about 10pm. I even got my credit back in 2 days!

The on-line tax return seemed much easier on-line than paper since all the calculations are made for you and it does the rounding automatically. If they can't get my on-line form to work I'll have to waste an evening filling in a paper version.

I'm not sure how the on-line form is for more complicated tax affairs e.g. capital gains or rental income with deductions.

It seems better this year than last, it just asks you questions and depending on what you tick it just takes you through the pages you need and skips the ones you don't. It took me about 15 minutes from start to end...........as long as you have everything in front of you that you need, if you don't it's easy to save and come back to it another time. and even though what you fill in on the screen doesn't look anything like the paper version the pdf file you get looks exactly like the paper version. I wont be filling in a paper return again, this is much better
