Advice on self assessment

Sep 26, 2004 2 Replies

You can tell that it's close to self assessment deadline, the phone lines to the Inland Revenue help line have overloaded and the BT recorded announcment keeps telling me to try again later. Maybe some helpful person here can help.....

I'm filling in my personal self assessment form. It's mostly straightforward but last year a did a little bit of work reviewing some web sites and earned the princely sum of 87. This wasn't cash in hand so there is an invoice and corresponding payment. My question is, is there any sort of dispensation for such low sums or do I really have to fill in the self-employed section of the self assessment form, invent a company name, arbitrary accounting periods, and all the other junk? Is there any way I can fit this into the main section of my return somewhere?

Of course. Simply tick the Yes box to question 13, put "£87" into box

13.3, and put a brief note "13.3 - casual earnings" into box 23.5.

Thanks Ronald. You are a star!
