tip for best holiday cash deal in France

Feb 19, 2004 4 Replies

Having just got my recent bank statements I see that my Nationwide visa debit card, which I used extensively while in France last month, was giving me top rate on exchange and with zero commision. This even applied to 2 withdrawals I made from cash machines while there. On every transaction it seems they're doing it for the interbank rate. My Alliance and Leicester visa card is not as kind. Nationwide say this is a concession they make though they don't say why or for how long.

debit card, which

Alliance and

they make though

A lot of us keep N'wide Flex a/c and credit card just for travel abroad. They say it's because they are BS and exist for members, not to profit shareholders. Long may it continue.

Nationwide have been the best for foreign currency transactions for as long as I can remember.

I'm always the last to know about these things....but why don't they make more of a noise about it - it couldn't do any harm.

I think it's just a niche marketing strategy, it gives regular travellers, who probably tend to be high spenders and good credit risks, a reason to hold their card. I went for a meal last year in San Diego with three colleagues and we all paid with Nationwide cards.
