Tranferring Egg Money Manager to another PC

Anybody know if its possible to transfer egg money manager to another PC, without having to try and remember all the different logons for the various bank accounts? I've got a plethora of accounts, but can only remember half the passwords and codes, etc. And what with the likes of some banks asking for 4 different things when you log on, how on earth can you remember them without writing them down. Arrgh!

Anyway, rant over - anyone help? I did ask egg, but within the first line of their response I could hear a sharp intake of breath and the nodding of a head and wagging of finger, saying no!, no!, no!. However, the file that holds all the data must be a hidden file somewhere in my PC.

What REALLY worries me about all this Internet banking stuff is: When someone dies who is going to know all the accounts they had and all their passwords etc.

Try logging on from another PC - the data might be stored *their* end, rather than on your system.

No sure what the egg manager is but I use this

for all of my passwords. Works a treat. You can store credit card details banks details and delivery addresses. Hope this helps. Bob.

People should still retain documentation for their accounts. Their passwords won't be known but correspondence will still be acceptable.

But there are many that and internet and email only. No paperflow.

IMO there should be a legal requirement for an annual paper staement. And access (on death) to some central government register of accounts/shareholdings (which I'm sure they have now under all these money laundering laws).

I have an Egg account and I did receive documentation although they are an "internet" operation.

The problem with a register is it would be open to fraud.

That could be done but the interest rate will, of course, be lower.

No, the money laundering laws will not have had anything to do with it at all. But, banks report all credit interest to the HMR&C (it used just be interest over a certain amount).

If you log on from another computer, you will only be able to access your Egg accounts, I know, I have done this. Egg say that the passwords are stored on your computer, so that you can abide by the usual terms and conditions of internet banking and not divulge your passwords to

3rd parties.

I would also like to know where exactly the passwords are stored. One way to find it out would be to install Egg money manager on a computer where it has not been used yet and search for recently modified files.

Logging on to banking websites often requires more than just a username and password. You may be asked to select certain letters of your password from a drop-down menu, for example. I don't think roboform can cope with that.

I have used roboform with Abbey National and Smile. It can cope with banking websites.

I print all these things out and file them. It seems to be a pretty reliable backup mechanism if nothing else.

You do and I do but Miss L Toe is talking about the people who don't do that. Some people may say it's their fault but I'm not sure that's the best attitude.

It kind of makes me realise why there is so much money lying in dormant accounts these days, and why the Chancellor wants to steal it and give it to "charity". How much of this money in dormant accounts actually belonged to dead people? Makes you wonder doesn't it. Makes me more convinced that everybody should have a will, even if it means leaving it all to the local cats home, if you've got no surviving relatives, or if theire all bastards and are only after your money when your're dead.

Nah - everybody except MY friends and family should NOT have a will - Then my taxes will be lower :-)

RoboForm can cope with many of those. You have to set up a custom field using the identity editor. There's more information on how to do that in the manual.

Can it handle Nationwide and Cahoot?

We have a TOISA with the Cheshire. When - after several years - I turned up with the passbook and asked them to update the interest, they were surprised, as they had thought that the account was dormant. Well what are you supposed to do with a TOISA? You can't add anything to it. So presumably you have to go in every so often to prove that the account still exists. Sheer madness.

I got it to fill my Nationwide login correctly. Haven't tried with Cahoot.
