Can anybody help me with this queston. I'm arriving to UK shortly, going to work there, need bank account. People say some horror stories about UK banks not willing to open an account without utility bills and such as proof of address. But how would you get billed without an account ?
I would be very greatfull if someone could enlighten me on how to oppen an account.

If your landlord gives you a contract, it will have the address. Also bring your former utility bills in your own country, etc. because some banks may be able to accept those but I'm not sure (I'll ask for you; feel free to reply to my email).

Did you mean driving licence from my country ? But I thought they need a proof of UK address..
I think you're half way there on the thought process then.
Try a little harder.
I read some information for immigrants and at least the Barclays branch in that area seems to accept this--there are so many immigrants here they probably needed a solution. If you aren't sure about how to use a driving licence, I'll give a few hints: you can exchange your Dutch licence for a British licence and when you do that you can register a new address.
