Underperforming Endowment policies

I've had an endowment for about 10 years now (25 yr total) and recently had a letter advising me of a possible shortfall in the final figure. (Fortunately, my mortgage no longer relies on this, I switched over to repayment but kept the endowment going).

A friend of mine says that I should write to the initial provider and complain that I was misold and that I'd get compensation. I'm a bit sceptical. Is this at all likely ?

Secondly, bearing in mind this policy is acting like a sort-of savings policy now, am I better off cashing it in or selling it or keeping it going ?
